Some of you were awake!!
I did not catch some of you sleepng with my comments. 3D did publish their Specs in October 1989 and it dates back to the original specs of 1988.
The SLA users that brave the 1993 blizzard and made it to Atlanta had some warmer conservation concerning the STL file format and problems associated with it. The concern expressed was over CAD vendor implementation of this format. The users asked if there was any on going attempt to strengthen this format since it had become the de facto standard. There had been none.
Considering the amount of work being done to assure, correct and manipulate that STL data, maybe some attention should be focused on that format. Or maybe I'm not hearing the user community very clearly. Are we satisfied with what we have?
When we don't express any opinions or concerns we get de facto standards. Are users willing to take less than they want and then have to pay a second or third time to achieve what should have been in the first place?
