Friday, July 29. Today, the Rapid Prototyping Association of the Society of
Manufacturing Engineers (RPA/SME) conducted the first of nine seminars called
"Rapid Prototyping: A First Look." The purpose of the half-day event is to
introduce companies to RP systems and applications. We've scheduled the
seminars at or near companies that own RP equipment so we can demonstrate it.
For most of the attendees, it was their first look at RP equipment in
operation. Those who attended also received a 1.5 hour presentation on the
basic function of several RP technologies and an opportunity to ask questions.
We had about 80 register for today's program, which was held in Boulder,
Colorado (near Denver), with 30 on the waiting list.

Protogenic, a fast-growing service bureau in Boulder, co-sponsored it with
RPA/SME. They own and operate an SLA-250, SLA-500 and Cubital Solider 5600.
The program this morning could not have gone better. Other First Look seminars
will be in California, Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Texas and Connecticut.

For more information, contact RPA/SME. It's a one-year old organization with
more than 1,000 members. Call (313) 271-1500, ext. 526, or fax (313) 240-8251.
Sherry Caruso is the association manager. Ask about the Bibliography of Rapid
Prototyping Resources (1st edition), a new video tape on rapid prototyping and
tooling, and other educational products and opportunities.
